The dashboard, steering wheel, and general layout of the Fronx are all recognizable from the more recent Baleno, so it’s like going back to see old friends. You don’t have to search for controls; it’s cozy and simple to get used to. However, with all the work they put into the aggressive coupe-SUV style on the exterior, you wish they had done something a bit different inside. Because the façade was so ostentatious, it’s almost as if the interior was overlooked.

However, the cabin of the Baleno has been well-maintained throughout the years, so there is really nothing wrong with it. The doors and upper dash have soft-touch panels that feel good, and the AC’s toggle switches are nice to the touch. However, when you look lower, part of that quality feel fades; the harsh plastics on the center console and lower dash are unexpected for a car that costs a bit more than a hatchback. When you lean in, you notice them, but they’re not deal-breakers.

Displays and Technology

Top models (Alpha, Zeta, etc.) have a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment screen that is snappy, crisp, and compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although base versions come with a smaller 7-inch model, the larger one simply feels and looks more elegant. Additionally, it’s cool that the head-up display (HUD) projects information like speed, revs, gear, and fuel—especially for a Fronx. It almost seems futuristic.

Wireless phone charging, OTA updates, and voice commands are also included, which is again considerate in this section. Additionally, you receive an Arkamys-tuned sound system, which is quite powerful for daily use. To be honest, most people will be impressed, even though a little more bass would have been good.

However, I must say that I always miss having a volume knob. Touch controls are nice, but sometimes a dial is just more convenient when you’re driving and need to quickly adjust with one hand.

Comfort in Seating: Firm yet Comfortable

The front seats have good under-thigh support and are plush and padded. You will value that if you spend a lot of time behind the wheel. You might need to slide back your seat a little at first because several reviewers complained that they felt crowded close to the steering wheel. This makes sense because the dash appears to be pushed a little closer. In strong light, the wine-shade maroon cloth in the higher versions appears elegant, but in brilliant light, it can conceal crumbs, which is a little unpleasant.

Three adjustable headrests, three-point seat belts, and Type-A and Type-C USB ports are located at the rear. Those who are taller won’t feel constrained by the surprisingly ample knee room. For that extra bit of comfort on lengthy travels, however, the absence of the middle armrest is greatly missed. Additionally, certain models have a hybrid battery box and a floor hump, which makes it difficult for the middle passenger to place their feet. balanced for the majority of users, however.

Storage & Boot: Good, But a Little Fussy

The boot can hold 308 liters, which is sufficient for city living—imagine grocery bags or a few weekend bags—but you can get considerably more by folding down the back seats. However, if you’re alone, lifting large objects seems like a mini-workout because the loading lip is a little high.

The cabin’s central storage is logical, with front and rear cupholders, bottle holders in the doors, and a cubby beneath the armrest. A Few Minor Disadvantages

Although the appearance is sleek and contemporary, there is a persistent thought that the cabin resembles a Baleno. And not even a carbon-copy Baleno with a few tweaks. “It’s still old Baleno interior from inside,” one Reddit critic even joked. And it is, sort of—not very unique. It’s unfortunate.

Of course, there are benefits to that familiarity as well—you know the system doesn’t crash on you, it’s intuitive, and parts seem well-ready. However, how awesome would it have been if they had added a little flair to the inside design? Perhaps a distinct trim piece or a different dash pattern would indicate that this is a new vehicle rather than merely a redesigned hatchback.

Bits of Technology That Fit in

Hill-hold assist, ESP, six airbags, reverse camera and sensors, auto-dimming mirror in higher trims, and connected car features like remote lock/unlock, AC on/off, and headlight control via smartphone or Alexa are just a few of the many contemporary conveniences. Little bursts of wonder are brought into daily life by these qualities. Parking in the city is easy with that and the 360° camera—until, unfortunately, you miss a sound knob.

One peculiarity is that the roof liner, which is made of the same knit fabric as Baleno, appears shabby in contrast to the otherwise immaculate cabin. Something you’d notice on a peaceful drive, yet not an eyesore.

However, you can’t help but feel that the cabin didn’t receive the same level of artistic attention as the exterior. Inside, it’s Baleno all over again. A sunroof, of all things, is absent when it’s becoming increasingly popular, and some plastics don’t feel nearly up to the price levels. However, these become inconspicuous once you’re behind the wheel, unless you’re tall, in which case the driving position or mixed seat room may necessitate a test seat.

After a lengthy drive, you discover that it meets most of your needs in terms of comfort, features, and smart technology. And it largely succeeds in that flawed, common human way. Yes, there are a few imperfections, but not enough to make you regret entering.
